About Jeremy Likness

People often ask, "What do you do?" I do a lot of things. I'm an entrepreneur, a mentor, a health coach, a software developer, a director, and a manager. These are the things I do ... but who I am is a father, a husband, and someone who enjoys life and all of the blessings it brings. (For what I'm doing right now, read my blog).

Organic Searches: Content, Content, Content

The most common question I receive is, "How do I make my site appear in organic searches?" Of course that is a popular question for online marketers because no one wants to have to (gasp) pay for search engine traffic. I was able to position my former website, NaturalPhysiques.com, as one of the top 40,000 sites in the entire Internet as ranked by Alexa.com through almost 100% organic search engine positioning. One of the key reasons was due to content.

Hierarchal Queries in SQL 2005: Traversing the Tree

Many business situations require a hierarchy of information, something that technologies like XML handle quite well, but traditional relational databases do not. SQL 2005 provides some powerful tools to help developers both "unroll" and traverse hierarchies. Take the example of a corporation. There is a CEO, followed by various presidents and vice presidents, who then have directors, managers, and on down to the field technicians, developers, and operators. How would we represent this structure in a database and traverse the tree?

Are Meta Tags Really Dead?

Meta tags. They're not required. Some sites claim that you will never, ever make it into a search engine without one. Other sites state that meta tags are dead, worthless, and a waste of time. Who's right and where do they tie into online marketing?

Lose Fat, Not Faith

I started my first health and wellness business in 2000. It was called "Peak Physiques." My second venture, "Natural Physiques" lasted several years under the corporate identity of Golden Summit, Inc. When I joined Wandering WiFi, I knew that building a multi-million dollar software company would require dedication, so I sold most of my business to focus on the new project. I did keep the rights to my articles as well as my book, and continue to share this information through Lose Fat, Not Faith.

Wandering WiFi, LLC

I joined the Wandering WiFi team in 2006. My family was living in St. Pete Beach, Florida at the time. I was running our health and wellness business as well as consulting for PricewaterhouseCoopers. This was an opportunity I could not turn down ... I knew the company had a solid management team and it would tap into many of my skills both in technology and as an entrepreneur. I approached the position with an "owner attitude" rather than simply as an employee.

Lizzie Marie Cuisine

At the age of six, my daughter wanted to take horse riding lessons. She did not ask for lessons, however. Instead, she sat my wife and I down and asked what she could do in order to earn enough money to pay for the lessons herself. She loves cooking and quickly determined she would bake organic, healthy foods and sell them at local markets. Lizzie Marie Cuisine was born.

Articles in iSeries Magazine (Formerly News/400)

While I'm mostly known for my hundreds of health and fitness articles, my first published works were technical. In the late 1990s I wrote a series of technical articles related to the iSeries (then known simply as the AS/400). These included information about SQL programming, how to troubleshoot and debug applications and even how to best organize software development teams in a growing organization. A list of these articles can be found by clicking here, although a membership is required to read them in full detail.

Jeremy Likness in "Who's Who" of Quake

I've been programming since I was a young child. I started as a child on the TI-99/4A, progressed to the Commodore 64, and finally started my professional career in the Information Technology industry. One of my favorite hobbies was online gaming, and when Quake was released I became involved with several projects, ranging from new styles of game play and custom effects to a total conversion (a custom game based on the original engine) called S.W.A.T. Quake. These efforts earned me a spot on the Who's Who list of "Quakers" that you can read when you click here.
